Qualifications of Eligible
Applicants:
- Current Principal/Headmaster or
Vice-Principal/Assistant Headmaster of an American public or private
middle/high school;
- Current school district Superintendent, deputy
Superintendent or Foreign Language Program Supervisor;
- Current school district Educational Administrator or
Director of
Chinese Language Programs;
- Elected /appointed local or state official working on
setting educational polices and law; or
- Chair or Coordinator of Foreign Languages Department
in American College
or University.
- Teachers of Chinese language can also be considered
at the program director’s discretion.
For years, Chinese language
teachers at American K-12 schools, both public and private, have wished that
their superintendents, principals or supervisors could have the opportunity to
visit China.
Their hope has been that if administrators could experience China
in person, they would realize the significance of teaching Chinese to today's
young Americans and, in turn, lend their full support to existing Chinese
programs.
The feedback received from the educators who attended the inaugurated US
educator trip in 2005 was overwhelmingly positive. With the continuing
financial support from Hanban, CLTA-GNY is able to
organize this educators' trip this summer again.
On this trip, the educators will
tour the 4 most famous and beautiful Chinese cities of Beijing,
Xi’an, Suzhou and Shanghai
for 10 days. The group will also observe preschool Chinese language
instruction; visit schools that offer Chinese as a foreign language; learn
about a web-based language teaching project currently being conducted between China
and America;
discuss possible collaboration between the US
schools and China's
Hanban-sponsored programs; and meet with
representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Education.
Participant’s expenses in China
for this trip (lodging, meals, airline tickets, and travel in China)
are generously supported by funding from Hanban.
All applications will be reviewed
by a Review Committee. The Review Committee will select approximately thirty US
educators for the summer China
trip and forward the list of participants to Hanban
and the Chinese Embassy. Those accepted into the trip will receive a formal
invitation letter from the office of Hanban in order
to process applications for a visa. A separate visa application will be
required with two recent passport-size photos.
If not enough eligible applications
are received by the deadline of May 2,
2006, we may postpone the trip to the fall semester of 2006. So in your email, please let us know
whether you would like to participate in the summer (June 30 to July 9, 2006)
or in the fall (late September or mid-October, 2006).
Interested applicants who meet one
of the above qualifications should contact CLTA-GNY Vice President, Dr.Lu, at CUNYinChina@yahoo.com.
